Heemu shows you a mindful pause before you open an app you have chosen to limit. This policy explains what we collect, what stays on your phone, and what you can control.
Heemu does not record which apps you open or when. That check happens on your phone and is never sent anywhere. We do not use analytics, crash reporting, advertising or tracking of any kind, and we never sell your data.
1. Account and sign in
Heemu requires you to sign in with a Quran.com account. When you sign in, Quran.com shares basic account identifiers with us so we can create your Heemu profile. Your Quran.com password is never seen or stored by Heemu.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account identifiers received from Quran.com when you sign in, such as your user ID and email address
- Gender preference, used for theme colour
- App preferences such as intervention mode, pause duration and cooldown
- The list of apps you choose to limit
- Goals you create in the app
Information recorded as you use the app
- That a pause screen was shown, and whether you continued to the app or went back
- Dhikr counts, ayat counts and streaks
- Which mode was used and how long the pause lasted
What we do not collect
- We do not record which app you opened. Heemu checks the app name on your phone to decide whether to show a pause, and that name is never sent to our servers
- We do not use any analytics or crash reporting service
- We do not use advertising, attribution or tracking SDKs
- We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, health data or payment details
- We do not read your messages, your passwords, or anything you type
3. Permissions we use
Accessibility Service
Heemu uses Android's Accessibility Service to detect which app is currently in the foreground, so it can show the pause screen for apps you selected. We use it only for that. We do not read screen content, capture keystrokes, collect text you type, or monitor anything beyond identifying the app in the foreground. Nothing read through this service is collected, stored on our servers, or shared with anyone.
Usage Access
Used to show you statistics about your screen time. This is read on your device only and is not uploaded to our servers. This permission is optional. Mindful pauses still work without it, only the screen time statistics will be missing.
Query all packages
Used to show you the list of apps installed on your device so you can choose which ones to limit. The list is read on your device only and is never uploaded to our servers.
Display over other apps
Used to show the pause screen on top of the app you opened.
4. How we use your information
- To provide the core pause and intervention functionality
- To personalise your experience
- To show your statistics, streaks and progress, and keep them available if you reinstall the app or sign in on another device
- To respond to support requests
5. Where your data is stored
The following stay on your device and are not uploaded:
- Your app preferences and settings, such as mode, pause duration and cooldown
- The list of apps you have chosen to limit
- Screen time statistics read through Usage Access
- Saved bookmarks and cached Quran content
- The full list of apps installed on your phone
- The name of any app detected in the foreground
The following are stored on our servers, hosted by Supabase, and linked to your account:
- Your profile record
- Goals you create
- Dhikr logs
- Intervention events, which record that a pause was shown, which mode was used, how long it lasted, and whether you continued or went back. These records do not include the name of the app.
6. Data sharing
We do not sell or trade your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
We use the following third-party services:
- Supabase, which hosts our database and authentication
- Quran.com, which provides sign in and supplies Quran verses and translations
- Google Play Services, for app distribution and updates
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or the public.
7. Data retention and deletion
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. You can request deletion of your account and all associated server data at any time, either from Settings inside the app or from our account deletion page.
Uninstalling the app removes the data stored on your device, but does not delete data stored on our servers. To remove that, use the account deletion page.
8. Age requirement
Heemu is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Your rights and choices
- You can request a copy of your data, or its deletion, by contacting us
- You can revoke Accessibility and Usage Access permissions at any time in your phone's settings
- You can change which apps trigger a pause at any time
- You can uninstall the app at any time
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, or restrict the processing of your personal data. We honour these requests wherever reasonably possible.
10. Security
Data transmitted between the app and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS. We use row level security on our database, so each account can only read and write its own records, and account permissions cannot be changed from the app. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date at the top.
